This 5 day itinerary takes adventurous travellers to the less visited and yet more beautiful region of the National park, known as Santo Amaro, where one night is spent, as well as to the tourist gateway of Barrerinhas, where two nigths are spent due to its strategic location.
Visiting both parts of the parks gives travelers a much more rounded experience of the region, since Santo Amaro and Barreirinhas vary tremendously in vibe.
One night in the historic city of São Luis, which is the capital and on an island, is a wonderful way to ease your way into the region.
A road less travelled, means less frills and creature comforts and the hotel in Santo Amaro reinforces that. Well located but very basic, expect zero frills. It is spotlessly clean and we take our own bed linen and amenities to make up for some of the hotel’s deficiencies. The hotel in Barrerinhas is more comfortable, but quite touristy, so do not expect an exclusive stay.
